Why is the Scout Shop
closing? The National Supply Division notified the
Greater New York Councils that they will closing the Staten
Island store due to a low volume of sales. The Greater New York
Councils recognizes the importance of having a Scout Shop in
Staten Island and will reopen it as a Council Scout Shop.
When will the Scout Shop close? The Regional Manager from National Supply Division indicated they would be open for sales until the third week in March. All inventory and store fixtures will be removed by April 1, 2015.
When will the Council Scout Shop open? The store will have some renovations made in April into May. We currently expect the store to open in mid to late May. Updates will be provided as we have firm dates to share.
Will the new store sell uniforms, insignia and advancement items? Yes, a full line of uniforms, advancement badges, pins, belt loops, etc. will be carried. Scout books and merit badge books will also be in stock.
Will the hours of the new Scout Shop be the same? No, they will be expanded to better match the camp operations and serve our Scouters. The Scout Shop will be open 10 AM to 6 PM Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, 10 AM to 10 PM Friday, 8 AM to 8 PM Saturday and 8 AM to 3 PM on Sunday.
Will The Scout Shop offer Camping Equipment? Yes, a full line of camping equipment will be on hand for purchase.
Will current staff be working in the new store? We are currently advertising to hire a store manager. Once the manager is hired, he or she will hire the staff for the Scout Shop. Anyone interested in working at the Scout Shop should email a resume to firstname.lastname@example.org. We are looking for a manger with a strong retail background and staff with a strong Scouting background so that we can offer the best service to the Scouts, Scouters and parents of our Scouting Community. All current Scout Shop employees that would like to work at the Councils Scout Shop are encouraged to interview.
Will I be able to drop off registration and advancement forms at the Scout Shop? Yes, the staff at the store will be able to accept registration applications and payments for registration as well as process advancement reports.
Can I make summer camp payments at the Scout Shop? Yes, you will be able to make payments for summer camp, district activities, membership payments, day camp, etc. over the counter at the Scout Shop as you would in the Council Office.
Will the Scout Shop take credit card and my unit check? Yes, the Scout Shop will be able to accept cash, checks, debit cards and all major credit cards.
Will the Scout Shop Cary Pouch Camp Items? Yes, the store will carry Camp Pouch, patches, pins, jackets, tee-shirts, hats belts and other custom items. It will also carry, Staten Island Council and Greater New York Council items such as jackets, hats belts, tee shirts, etc.
Can I order specialized items that are not carried in the store? Yes, the store will order special awards, plaques, literature for you and have it quickly shipped to you or the store. They can also order custom patches, tee-shirts, jackets, etc. for Packs, Troops or Crews.
Who do I ask if I have other questions? Once the store manager is hired, he or she will be available by phone or e-mail to answer questions. In the meantime feel free to e-mail questions to email@example.com and they will be quickly answered.
