2022 World Series: schedule, how to watch, odds

The leaves are falling, the temperatures are falling, Halloween is fast approaching… and the Philadelphia Phillies are still playing baseball.

They will now play the Houston Astros through November after being promoted to their first World Series in 13 years on Sunday.

The Phillies, who earned a wild card berth with an 87-75 record, upset defending champion Atlanta Braves in the NLDS and defeated the San Diego Padres on Sunday after an eighth inning and a go-ahead home run by Bryce Harper in Game 5 of the NLKS. Philadelphia is returning to the Fall Classic for the first time in back-to-back appearances in 2008 and 2009. The Phillies are seeking their third championship after winning in 1980 and 2008.

The Astros went 106-56 that season before beating the Seattle Mariners in the ALDS and the New York Yankees in the ALCS. The Astros — back in the World Series for the second straight year and fourth in six seasons — are seeking their second championship in franchise history. However, that 2017 title was marred by a cheating scandal that resulted in a $5 million fine, the loss of draft picks, and the season-long suspensions and eventual terminations of manager AJ Hinch and general manager Jeff Luhnow.

The 2022 World Series is guaranteed to be played into November and could make the latest date ever for a World Series if it goes the distance due to the lockout on that delayed opening day. The last World Series game was played on November 4, 2001 and again in 2009. Last year’s World Series between the Astros and Braves ended on November 2nd.
