ABC World News Tonight remains No. 1, wins adults 25-54

ABC World News tonight with David Muir maintain its No. 1 ranking over the past week – meaning it has now beaten its competition from NBC and CBS 203 of the last 204 weeks in total average viewership – and 132 of the last 134 weeks in adults 25-54 .

According to Nielsen Live plus Same Day data for the week of October 17, World News Tonight averaged 7.68 million total linear viewers, the second-largest audience of any US TV show excluding sports programming. The newscast reached an average of 1.275 million adults aged 25 to 54 last week. The overall viewership average of 7.68 million marks a slight week-on-week decrease (less than -1%), while the A25-54 newscast count is +2% from the previous week (10 October) at 1.275 million. Relative to the same week a year ago. (October 18, 2021), however, WNT is down -3% in total viewership and -6% in adults 25-54

NBC Nightly News with Lester Holt, unlike its ABC and CBS competition, it has seen weekly viewership growth across the board. The second-ranked evening news show averaged more than 6.54 million total linear viewers last week, up +2% from the previous week and the highest total viewership for the news show in three weeks. Nightly averaged 1.065 million adults aged 25-54 linearly, which happens to be +3% over the previous week. NBC’s evening newscasts have -3% of total viewers and -9% of A25-54 viewers compared to the same week last year, as all three major evening newscasts continue to report year-over-year viewership losses.

According to data from Adobe Analytics and partner portals, as well as the YouTube Analytics portal, full weekday episodes of NBC Nightly News were viewed an average of 712,000 times last week and watched by 546,000 viewers.

CBS Evening News with Norah O’Donnell averaged more than 4.68 million total linear viewers over the past week. That’s +3% over the previous week, a more significant week-over-week gain than the competition. However, the number of viewers of 4.68 million is -4% down on the same week last year. Additionally, the Evening News last week recorded an average of 758,000 adults aged 25-54, down -3% from the previous week and down -15% from the same week last year.
