Apple’s macOS Ventura launches Monday, October 24th, that’s the day iPadOS 16.1 will be made available for iPad users. The update was first revealed at WWDC 2022 in June this year and includes a host of new features including Stage Manager, Continuity Camera and Handoff for FaceTime. Tagging along with these goodies is a major overhaul of the System Settings app, not giving it a fresh look but a new name as well as System Settings.

Here’s everything you need to know about macOS Ventura.

macOS Ventura: Top Features

stage manager

Stage Manager is a tool that automatically organizes open apps and windows and arranges them in a single view so you can focus on your main app. The current window is clearly shown in the center, while other open windows appear on the left to facilitate quick switching between them. It works in tandem with other windowing tools such as Mission Control and Spaces.

continuity camera

A lot of people complain about the webcam quality on the MacBooks, and while we’ve seen improvements over the years, they still can’t match the selfie capabilities of the iPhones. It’s likely with this in mind that Apple bundled a new feature with Ventura that allows users to use their iPhone as a webcam. Macs will be able to automatically detect and use the camera on an iPhone when it’s nearby, and will use features like Center Stage, Portrait mode and a new Studio Light effect to light up the footage to enhance.

Other updates for macOS

Another highlight is the fact that iMessage users can now edit and retract messages on macOS, just like on iOS. The Mail app has also been updated with the option to cancel emails. The Clock app from iPhone and iPad is now available on Mac to boost your productivity. And Safari has been updated to support Passkeys – a safer and easier way to sign in without using passwords.

The browser has also been updated with shared tab groups, allowing users to share websites with their friends and family so they can see what others are seeing in real-time. Users can also start a message conversation or FaceTime call directly from Safari.

Spotlight gets an updated design aimed at making it easier to navigate. Users can now find images in their photo library, across the system, and across the web. They can also search their photos by location, people, scenes or objects with Live Text, which allows them to search by scanning text within images.

macOS Ventura: System requirements

Even if your old Mac is still running, it won’t necessarily be able to handle macOS Ventura. However, if you have one of these Macs, you can download the new macOS update.
