Are Knicks New York’s Last Big Sport Hope After Nets, Yankees Debacles?

With the New York Yankees and Brooklyn Nets on the verge of losing their Superstars, it’s fair to ask a question. Are the New York Knicks their best hope for success in New York? Before anyone comments on the New York Mets, I’m aware they’re good — but the Mets, no unlike the Knicks, are never New York’s best hope for success.

The New York Knicks are never actually the best hope of success in anything, so — article over? Just kidding, of course, but the truth is they are rarely, if ever, the best hope for a championship team.

The so-so start has many fans screaming that the Knicks are “Mid,” as the kids say, and even though I’m 21, the Knicks made me mentally 88 years old. However, the middle label makes sense. They certainly threaten the purgatory of the NBA.

The NBA’s purgatory is the worst place to be. They’re nowhere near good enough to succeed, but too good to tank, and will always end up in the playoffs as a late-draft lottery team or a low-end first-round dropout.

Some of the other New York teams don’t impress

Both the Yankees and the Mets have their problems. Yankees owner Hal Steinbrenner does an excellent job of tarnishing what his father built, as GM Brian Cashman keeps his puppet in Aaron Boone as manager, even though Boone is terrible at his job. Also, the Yankees are likely to lose Aaron Judge to the San Francisco Giants, so the franchise player is leaving. The Mets, on the other hand, messed it up beautifully this year in an implosion around the 25th hour, and Jacob DeGrom is a free agent, which doesn’t help.

Ok, now that I’ve promoted every single New York sports team that we New Yorkers hold dear… oh wait, we forgot the Knicks’ little brother who lives in Mom’s basement, the Brooklyn Nets.

The networks are a disaster. Kyrie Irving has been suspended for the foreseeable future for a reason we all know. No need to elaborate on that, especially since it’s a whole can full of worms and worms are gross.

The team gutted their entire roster for James Harden, who asked to be traded 13 months after his arrival, and now the Nets have essentially traded eight first-round picks for Ben Simmons, Seth Curry and Royce O’Neal. Also, Kevin Durant is probably playing his final season in Brooklyn, so this is a dumpster fire about to be doused with gasoline.

Where the Knicks are right now isn’t great, but it’s not terrible. They’re not a team with a superstar and nothing else. The team is mostly young and will improve with time. The Knicks have young talent and trades, and there are people across the board that they could potentially target and use those trades.

Are the Knicks their best hope for success in New York? Probably not. The New York Jets are super young and already looking incredibly dominant. The New York Rangers have shown more success. The Yankees don’t rebuild – they reload.

The Knicks have a path to success, but where they are right now isn’t favorable enough to say they’re New York’s best hope. The Knicks may become their best hope for a New York championship, but they’re still a superstar trade.
