Autumn season ends, winter sports warm-up at RHS

The Riverbank runners recently wrapped up their 2022 cross-country season, with those on the freshman/sophomore roster posting good finishes in recent encounters. Elsewhere, winter teams are starting to see more action as preseason competitions are underway.

Head Coach Monte Wood reported that the season ended this past Saturday, November 12, with Giselle Fernandez and Gus Ortiz winning their D-IV Section Championships sophomores/sophomores. It took place in North Highlands.

“Giselle won her race with ease,” he said. “Gus drove a great race. He went for it from the start and put himself in a position to win. He even fell while going down a hill, got back up and finished strong.”

The Trans-Valley League Championship was held on October 26 at Ceres Regional Park. Coach Wood listed his runners who received medals there.

“The TVL medalists were Gus Ortiz, David Ten Fingers Ranson, Giselle Fernandez who won the JV race there, Maya Guzman, Jynessa Lopez and Gianna Cruz,” Wood said.

He added that the Frosh/Soph team qualified for the section championship, but “two of the girls couldn’t run on Saturday,” so they couldn’t score as a team.
