A longtime British radio presenter died of a suspected heart attack on Monday while presenting his daily segment on the air, his radio station said.
Tim Gough, 55, died early Monday morning while his show “Tim Gough at Breakfast” was airing live, GenX Radio said in a news release. Gough presented the show from his home in Suffolk, the county in eastern England where he was born.
GenX Radio said staff were “unutterably shocked and devastated” at the loss of their colleague, whom the station described as “an extremely experienced and highly talented broadcaster with an army of fans for his daily show.”
James Hazell, the managing director of GenX Radio Suffolk, who has known Gough throughout his career, praised the radio host.
“Tim has been in radio since the 80’s and had come out of radio retirement to get fully involved with our project from the start to bring local commercial radio back to his beloved Suffolk and was very excited about our DAB -Starting at the end of the month,” Hazell said in a statement.
“To know Tim personally, as I have very closely for over 30 years, was to know a warm, caring, fun guy who I and my family loved dearly. We are heartbroken by the news,” the statement continued. “I know his family has been tremendously comforted by the hundreds of loving messages that have been received and have asked for privacy at this devastating time.”
GenX Radio Suffolk also honored Gough’s legacy and offered his condolences to his family in a social media message released on Monday.
“It is with a heavy heart that I have to inform you that our dear friend and breakfast host Tim Gough passed away this morning while presenting his programme,” the broadcaster said tweeted. “Our love goes out to his family, his son, his sister, his brother and his mother. Tim did what he loved.”
According to a biography published on the GenX website, Gough began his career in radio more than three decades ago. He has worked on several UK local stations including Radio Orwell, Saxon Radio and SGR-FM and has also appeared on the national Smooth Radio station. Gough had come out of retirement to host the morning breakfast series on GenX Radio Suffolk.
Gough is survived by a mother, brother, sister and son, the broadcaster said.
