Candace Cameron Bure Talks Partnering With Good Family Entertainment Network GAC

From Movieguide® staff

Candace Cameron Bure shared her commitment to creating and promoting Faith Programming and spoke about her partnership with the Great American Family.

“My heart wants to tell stories that have more meaning and purpose and depth,” says Bure said. “I knew the people behind Great American Family were Christians who loved the Lord and wanted to promote faith programs and good family entertainment.”

In addition to producing content for the channel through her production company, Candy Rock Entertainment, Bure also serves as the channel’s chief creative officer.

Bure’s first film with GAC, A CHRISTMAS…PRESENT, premieres on November 27th.

Movieguide® before reported on Bure’s move from Hallmark to Great American Family:

Actress Candace Cameron Bure recently spoke candidly about how she balances her career on television and her role as a mother.

In recent years the FULL HOUSE star has launched her clothing line, appeared in countless TV shows and films and has authored 11 books. Bure even earned Hallmark’s Queen of Christmas title.

In April, Bure announced that she was joining former Hallmark CEO Bill Abbott’s new family-friendly network, Great American Family.

“The truth is I’ve been with Hallmark for a very, very long time. And these were absolutely wonderful. Coincidentally, my contract expired when Great American Family started,” she said of the move. “So we didn’t have these discussions until after we negotiated an extension with Hallmark Channel. And as any entrepreneur knows, when it comes to contracts, you have to do the right thing. It didn’t work out with Hallmark and that’s how we got in touch with Bill.”

Bure worked with Abbott at Hallmark for years and said she was always grateful that she was given another opportunity to act after her break from television.

“I felt like Bill gave me my first chance to get back into business and I will always be grateful to him for that. I’ve really grown alongside him as he built the network,” she said. “Bill was just always a champion. He’s stood up for others throughout his career, and that’s what made him an incredible president and CEO of a company — because he knows he’s not doing it himself.

“It takes a team and it takes loyalty and it takes people who do their best,” she continued. “And he always recognizes that, which makes him a great leader … It’s been a relationship of almost 15 years. I have faith in what Bill has done over the years and that really means a lot to me. That’s another reason why moving to Great American Family was a good step for me because of the long-standing relationship with Bill.”

Not only will Bure lend her acting talent to the new network, but the 46-year-old said she will also be taking on a leadership role at the company.

“We need to let people know we’re there and be aware and get distribution everywhere. But that’s going to be content that’s trusted, that’s wholesome, that’s family-friendly,” she said. “It’s really going to push all the holidays and rom-coms forward. And so I’m just helping oversee all of that and the directions they’re going and providing that content… I know the brand as well as they do. I know what the audience likes and wants. I just want to help.”

Bure said Great American Family will focus on Christian holidays, particularly Christmas, for now this year.

“We’re absolutely focused on Christmas,” she said. “I’m sure as the channel continues to create content it will include other holidays as well, but I think we know the core audience and what they love is exactly how Bill originally built the Hallmark Channel and that was Christmas and this.” traditional holidays and such that will be the focus.”

“I think the greatest thing about Christmas movies in general is that people make fun of them and still love them,” she said. “That’s because they’re predictable. You know someone will fall in love, you know there will be a kiss at the end. You know it’s just going to be happy and warm and heartfelt. And people flock to it, especially on the holidays.”
