Castle Rock Entertainment has announced it will produce a sequel to the award-winning crime drama wind flowtitled Wind River: The Next Chapter, with production scheduled to begin in January. Martin Sensmeier (1883) will be starring Kari Skogland (The Falcon and the Winter Soldier) hired as director.
The 2017 original film, written and directed by Oscar nominee Taylor Sheridan, watched as seasoned hunter Corey Lambert (Jeremy Renner) helped new FBI agent Jane Banner (Elizabeth Olsen) solve the murder of a young woman in the… Wind Indian Reservation in Wyoming examine river. The film had its world premiere at Sundance before moving on to Cannes, where Sheridan accepted the Best Director award. Patrick Massett & John Zinman (Lara Croft Tomb Raider, gold) wrote the screenplay for the sequel, which Matthew George will produce for Castle Rock Entertainment and Acacia Filmed Entertainment along with Basil Iwanyk and Erica Lee for Thunder Road Pictures. Executive producers include Castle Rock’s Rob Reiner, Michele Reiner, Derrick Rossi, Jonathan Fuhrman, Courtney Shepard and Hernan Narea.
Skogland is an Emmy-nominated and BAFTA-winning director whose credits include directing and executive producing Marvel’s Emmy-nominated series The Falcon and the Winter Soldier for Disney+ and Showtime’s The loudest voice, starring Russell Crowe and Sienna Miller. She has also directed Hulu’s The story of the maid and wrote, directed and produced the thriller Fifty dead men go, starring Ben Kingsley and Jim Sturgess. Skogland is also currently involved in directing the epic Cleopatrawith Gal Gadot, for Universal and Atlas Entertainment.
Sensmeier is known on the TV side for roles in Sheridans 1883 and yellowstonepeacocks Rutherford Falls and HBO’s western world. Notable film credits in addition to wind flow contain 9 bullets, The glory seven and The Ice Road. The actor most recently stepped into the action thriller directed by Quavo Take over and joined the NBC cast of the second season La Brea.
