Chamber ALX 2022 Best in Business Awards Spotlight Alexandria’s Best

Alexandria, VA – With nearly 40 business finalists and over 400 attendees, the 2022 sold-out Alexandria Chamber of Commerce Best in Business Awards truly brought together the best of Alexandria.

At The Westin Alexandria Old Town (400 Courthouse Square), chamber members, small, large, nonprofit, new and established companies flocked to the upstairs ballroom to congratulate one another before the awards were presented.

Chamber President Joe Haggerty said: “We’ve got a sold-out meeting, a great business leader of the year, so it’s going to be a fun event. That’s all I can tell you.” While Haggerty held his cards close to his vest, the guests took their places to await the unveiling of the winners.

Presented by Burke & Herbert Bank, this year’s Best in Business winners for each category are as follows:

Small Business of the Year: Everly-Wheatley Funeral Home

Jim Zalewski, Everly-Wheatley Funeral Home, accepts the Small Business Award.

Medium Company of the Year: Marks-Woods Construction

Greg Marks, Marks-Wood Construction, accepts the mid-sized company award.

Big Company of the Year: Kearney & Company

Diane Jackson, Kearney & Company, accepts the award for large companies.

Nonprofit Organization of the Year: Goodwin Living

Theresa Thomas, Goodwin Living, accepts the Nonprofit/Association Business Award.

Newcomer of the Year: The Critical Mass, LLC

Scott Eshorn, The Critical Mass LLC, accepts the Rising Star Business award.

Overall Business of the Year: Chadwicks

Executive Director of the Year: Cathy Puskar

“Wow, that was amazing,” remarked Cathy Puskar as she took the stage after a warm introduction from her close friend and Alexandrian businesswoman, Laura Machanic. “But tonight everything was great, sitting there and watching friends being nominated and won for these awards.”

While Business Leader of the Year is selected by a committee of chamber members-designate, each company is selected from a pool of finalists by an anonymous chamber committee. For a list of finalists for each category, see
