ST. GEORGE – It’s basketball time.
Fan Sports Network and St. George News Sports will host their media day for Region 10 basketball teams on Friday at 1:00 p.m. at the Nets on Fire.
“I started about 10 years ago. We’re really excited about it,” Devin Dixon, host of The Drive on Fan Sports Network and longtime local sports watcher, told St. George News.
“This will be the first time we’ve included the girls’ teams,” added Dixon. “So all seven schools in the region, boys and girls, coaches and players, are presented.
“There are many parents, friends and fans of the girls game and we are delighted that her debut will be part of our media day coverage.”
Region 10 basketball coaches and players will be joined by Dixon, Mark Musgrave aka The Voice You Know, Kaden Foremaster and other members of the media for media day interviews.
At this time, the media and coach poll will also be conducted and the pre-season All Region 10 players will be determined.
“We’re really excited to jump straight into the basketball season and broadcast multiple games, boys and girls, live each week on The Fan Sports Network,” said Dixon.
The media day at Nets on Fire just makes sense.
“They have four basketball courts, they have great facilities, it’s a great fit,” Dixon said. “Nets on Fire supports local basketball at all levels. They are incredible supporters of basketball and we are very excited to be working with them.”
Kasey Winters, operations manager for Nets on Fire, told St. George News that he thinks the new basketball facility at 1871 W Canyon View Drive is an ideal location for media day and he said they look forward to to be the host.
“Nets on Fire is a well known place locally. Most of the kids that play in high school now have played some games or practiced or worked out here,” Winters said.
Winters joined Nets on Fire after retiring as the boys’ team head coach at Crimson Cliffs last year.
“Since I started here last spring, I’ve worked with several kids in the area who I’m used to competing against and scheming against,” Winters said.
He added that the Region 10 game will be exciting this year.
“Now the school kids are going back to the gym and I’m really looking forward to this high school season where I can walk around and be a fan,” Winters said.
St. George News Sports and The Fan Sports Network will release the results of the Region 10 pre-season polls and will feature extensive media coverage a day after the event closes on Friday night.
