Downtown Staunton gears up for the holiday season with new shops

STAUNTON, Va. (WHSV) – The Valley is wrapping up the fall program and it won’t be long before the holiday celebrations and parades are in full swing.

The Staunton Downtown Development Association (SDDA) just wrapped up a busy fall for the city, and winter is looking the same.

“It’s busy. There’s always something on the way and we’re always preparing for what’s next,” said Greg Beam, Executive Director of SDDA.

This year, a group of business owners are bringing back a popular event – Sparkles and Sweets. Sparkles and Sweets is traditionally hosted by SDDA, but they couldn’t match all of their events this year. This event is scheduled for Friday November 11th from 6pm to 9pm

“These business owners have joined forces and are relaunching glitter and candy that will take place in downtown Staunton on Friday, November 11 starting at 6pm – a prelude to the downtown Staunton holiday season,” Beam said.

Some companies, like Shenandoah Valley Brewing Company, have closed their doors for good, and some new ones, like Accordia, have opened.

“Downtown Staunton is changing as always. We have to say goodbye to some of our business owners who have been down here for quite some time. We wish them all the best in their next chapters,” Beam said. “The good news is that we have several new companies that will be arriving and opening their doors over the next few weeks, so these people are busy preparing for customers.”

Everyone needs to take a closer look at budgets and spending, and local businesses are no different.

“Whether you are a family or a business owner and our business owners, they have their families, it is difficult for everyone to still recover from the pandemic and go on vacation at this time. We encourage people to keep shopping and supporting locally,” he said.

According to Beam, the holidays are a great time to explore downtown Staunton. There’s Sparkles and Sweets, the Christmas Parade and Small Business Saturday.

“At the end of the month is Small Business Saturday, the Saturday after Thanksgiving. If you haven’t been downtown yet, we’d love for you to come downtown and support some of our many wonderful businesses that are based here.”

Other new additions to Staunton include Burrow and Vine, Sweet Addie’s and Remedy Burger.

Here is an overview of upcoming events:
