dr Kendra Killpatrick receives the Technology Pioneer Award 2022 from the EAB | newsroom

Associate Dean Kendra Killpatrick was recently recognized with the EAB 2022 Technology Pioneer Award for her innovative leadership in student success. Killpatrick led the college in implementing the Navigate student success platform.

“Our goal for all Seaver students is that they find an academic program that challenges and inspires them and that they are successful in completing Pepperdine,” says Killpatrick. “Using the Navigate platform allows us to provide students with holistic academic support that integrates many areas of the college such as OneStop, the Student Success Center, faculty advisors and more. Additionally, the platform’s analytics provide important information about which students might benefit from additional academic support, and we can provide these resources in a timely manner.”

Navigate’s usefulness has resonated with students, with 95% of freshmen at Seaver College downloading the mobile app. By using this platform, managed by Associate Dean Kindy De Long, students are provided with a range of resources designed to advance them in their academic careers. Specifically, the Navigate app allows students to receive helpful academic to-do lists, registration options, advisory or financial lock release while streamlining graduation submissions.

In addition to championing this helpful resource, Pepperdine University has served as an alpha partner for next-generation academic planning. As part of this collaboration, the university helped create an effective tool to help students create their optimal four-year degree plan. By designing this plan on Navigate, advisors across campus have the opportunity to view and provide feedback to their students.

“Students, faculty and campus staff have become smarter about the combination of online and in-person student support services,” said Scott Schirmeier, EAB’s President of Technology. “The winners of EAB’s 2022 Student Success Collaborative Awards are leading the way in rethinking the student support model and using technology creatively to keep students on the path to graduation.”

The EAB 2022 Technology Pioneer Award recognizes Killpatrick as a leader in using technology to foster student success. In addition, the award demonstrates Seaver College’s commitment to building an enabling environment for academic success.
