Injury update from Jonathan Taylor, Fantasy Outlook for Week 9

Taylor (ankle) ended Indianapolis’ 17-16 first-half loss to Washington with an ankle injury, but returned to action to finish with 16 carries for 78 yards. It was certainly concerning to see Taylor’s right ankle wrapped on the touchline after already struggling with an ankle sprain for two weeks. Taylor wasn’t as effective coming back to Sunday’s game, losing a key fumble for the Colts in the red zone late in the third quarter.

Even with Taylor returning to action, it’s worth keeping an eye on his status throughout the week. Taylor and the Colts have a tough matchup against a Patriots defense in Week 9, allowing RBs the third-lowest FPPG (16.1). If Taylor ends up surprisingly inactive, fellow RB players Deon Jackson and Nyheim Hines win regardless of matchup flex appeal, with Hines having slightly more value at the moment. Both are worth speculative free-agent additions this week.

Gus Edwards Injury Update Fantasy Week 9 Outlook

TO UPDATE: Ravens coach John Harbaugh said on Monday that he is expecting Edwards ‘questionable’ ahead of Week 9 game in New Orleans.

Edwards ended Baltimore’s 27-22 win over Tampa Bay Thursday night with a hamstring injury and did not return to action.

Corresponding NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, the hamstring injury is considered minor and shouldn’t mean that Edwards misses a lot of time. That’s good news for the fifth running back, who missed all of last season and the first six games of 2022 to recover from a gruesome knee injury. Edwards has led Baltimore in carries in each of their last two games, but Kenyan Drake was the more effective defender last Thursday. Should Edwards miss Baltimore’s Week 9 match against New Orleans on Monday Night Football, expect a bigger role for Drake, making him a must-handcuff.
