Limitless recruitment is no longer an exception.
According to a new study, 58 percent of companies report at least some tech talent working in a completely remote, borderless arrangement
Gartner defines the borderless workforce as talent working from different countries on the basis of an employment contract that transcends national borders. As this trend continues to spread, the survey also found that 27% of executives are currently considering hiring limitless tech workers.
“It’s no surprise that the hiring rate of borderless technology employees has doubled over the past three years as increasing retention and hiring of CEOs has become the #3 priority this year and 2023,” he said
Gartner analysts presented the survey results during the Gartner IT Symposium/Xpo, held here to date. The survey was conducted in Q2 2022 among 288 C-level executives and their direct reports to understand their readiness to pursue a limitless tech workforce, their plans and the adoption of a limitless workforce.
“In today’s professional world, location is fluid, the market is global and the competition for talent is agnostic as we all compete under the same flag of technology,” said Vogel. “Consequently, countries are losing talent to other countries, the public sector is losing talent to the private sector, and all industries are in the same situation. Competitive borders no longer exist, and business and IT leaders are hiring borderless staff where they have the greatest competitive advantage — what we call the “borderless zone,” Vogel added.
The survey found that 19% of IT staff at organizations with unlimited talent are unlimited.
“Hiring borderless staff requires business and IT leaders to make significant adjustments to their operating model, including overhauling their management techniques, infrastructure and technology, cybersecurity and privacy, and pay equity,” Vogel said

The top two areas of expertise that CIOs and IT leaders are looking for limitless talent in are software development/application development (62% of respondents) and application support (55% of respondents).
While 71% of companies surveyed said it was critical to incorporate the specific needs of limitless tech workers into their workplace strategy, 50% of companies said they have fully implemented tools for collaboration and productivity, such as: B. Cloud office suites, workstream collaboration and meetings solutions and digital whiteboard.
Restrictions that impede adoption
However, Borderless is not suitable for every organization. “There are certain limitations that impede the adoption and expansion of borderless operations, and they range from the complexity of administrative support to cultural issues to security and legality concerns,” he said
