foreplay: Georgia Football will step onto the field with a heavy heart following the death of legendary head coach and athletic director Vince Dooley. He coached from 1964 to 1988 and posted an 18-6-1 record against the Gators.

“Our family is heartbroken at the passing of Coach Dooley. He was one of a kind with a love for UGA that was second to none,” said Georgia coach Kirby Smart. β€œHe and Barbara have embraced my family from day one. He will be missed by our community, the university and collegiate athletics.”

As for the 2022 version of the game, Georgia enters as the 22.5-point favorite, believed to be the widest spread since tracking the spread began in 1995. The Bulldogs are 7-0 and earn a 55-0 win over Vanderbilt.

For the Bulldogs, many will be watching what happens to defensive tackle Jalen Carter. He made the trip to Jacksonville, Fla. after missing the last two games with a knee injury he sustained against Missouri.

Georgia is unlikely to have AD Mitchell back as he is still struggling with an ankle injury. The Bulldogs will have Smael Mondon and Kendall Milton back after they both missed the Auburn game.

One of the keys will be how Georgia’s defense slows Florida’s speedy attack. Florida has the best yards-per-carry mark in the country, led by double-threat quarterback Anthony Richardson.

“It’s the scrambled eggs. It’s the draws, the converted runs, where he excels, where he’s really elite,” Smart said. “I mean, they have some 60-yard and 70-yard runs that you could say are a design run, but it’s not. It makes it really hard to defend because most coaches try to defend the pass by marking people and sometimes the worst thing you can do is mark everyone and this guy takes off because of it Spread your defense across the field.”

Georgia and Florida air at 3:30 p.m. ET on CBS.
