GPRMC now offers 3D mammography technology

October 21, 2022

Through GPRMC Press Release – Marnie Tosh

Great Plains Regional Medical Center is proud to offer Genius™ 3D Mammography™ exams developed by Hologic, Inc., a global leader in women’s health.

Genius exams utilize advanced breast tomosynthesis technology, clinically proven to significantly increase breast cancer detection and also reduce the number of women asked to return for additional testing.

With conventional 2D mammography, overlapping tissue is one of the main reasons small breast cancers are missed and normal tissue appears abnormal, leading to unnecessary recalls.

A brilliant test

includes a three-dimensional imaging method, which can greatly reduce the tissue overlapping effect.

A Genius exam includes both 2D images and tomosynthesis scans. During the tomosynthesis-DIMENSIONAL portion of the exam, an X-ray arm sweeps across the chest in a slight arc and captures multiple images. A computer then converts the images into a stack of thin slices, allowing the radiologist to examine the breast tissue layer by layer.

A Genius exam requires no additional compression and takes just a few seconds longer than a traditional 2D breast cancer screening.

Our Genius™ 3D Mammography™ exam, available on Hologic’s 3Dimensions™ and Selenia Dimensions systems, revolutionizes the way breast cancer is detected by providing a better option for women of all breast densities compared to 2D alone . 1-2 researchers have found that:

The Genius™ 3D Mammography™ scan finds 20-65% more invasive breast cancers compared to 2D alone, an average increase of 41%.3

Only the Genius ™ 3D Mammography ™ exam is FDA approved as superior to 2D alone for women with dense breasts.1-2

Genius™ 3D Mammography™ exam reduces recalls by up to 40% compared to 2D alone.

Great Plains Regional Medical Center is committed to fighting breast cancer. With the Genius exam, GPRMC offers a more accurate tool for breast cancer screening.

Gary Naron, Director of Radiology at GPRMC, commented, “At GPRMC we are committed to providing excellent care to our patients, and the Genius 3D Mammography™ exam allows us to do just that.”

To schedule a Genius 3D Mammography™ exam or have questions about this important breast health procedure, please contact GPRMC at (580) 821-5565.
