Henry Cavill will no longer be starring in Netflix’s The Witcher, the British actor announced on Instagram on Saturday.
Australian actor Liam Hemsworth has been tapped to replace him in the show’s fourth season.
Cavill captioned his post, “My journey as Geralt of Rivia has been filled with both monsters and adventure, and sadly I will be laying down my medallion and swords for Season 4.”
It’s been a momentous week for the 39-year-old as he previously announced he would be returning to the DC Comics universe to reprise his role as Superman.

In announcing his departure, Cavill also revealed that Hemsworth would be taking over his role, writing: “In my place, the fantastic Mr. Liam Hemsworth will assume the mantle of the White Wolf Torch with reverence for the time he has spent, Geralt.” to embody, and with enthusiasm to see Liam’s take on this most intriguing and nuanced man.
Writing directly to the Australian, the Brit said: “Liam good sir there is such wonderful depth to this character for him, enjoy diving in and seeing what you can find.”

The 32-year-old Hemsworth, in turn, wrote a message to fans and Cavill on his own platform. He said: “As a Witcher fan, I’m over the moon to have the opportunity to play Geralt of Rivia. Henry Cavill was an incredible Geralt and I am honored that he is handing me the reins and allowing me to take on White Wolf’s Blades for the next chapter of his adventure. Henry, I’ve been a fan of yours for years and was inspired by what you brought to this beloved character. I may have some big shoes to fill, but I’m really excited to enter the world of The Witcher.”
Although only seasons 1 and 2 are currently available on the streaming service, season 3 will be released in summer 2023. There is no confirmation as to when Hemsworth Season 4 will begin filming or airing.
Netflix also welcomed the actor to The Witcher family in a tweet shared on Saturday.
