HONG KONG–(BUSINESS WIRE)–The much-anticipated “Sun Hung Kai Properties Hong Kong Cyclothon returns after four years! The Hong Kong Tourism Board (HKTB) announced that the “Sun Hung Kai Properties Hong Kong Cyclothon will be held on December 18, 2022 (Sunday).
Thousands of cyclists will buzz through the streets of Hong Kong as the cosmopolitan city transforms into a racetrack, with professional athletes and cycling enthusiasts taking part in the 50km and 30km rides, as well as four other races: the CEO Charity and Celebrity Ride, Men’s Open, Women’s Open and Team Time Trial.
With a tentative quota of 3,000 participants, the most popular event, the 50km ride, starts and finishes on Tsim Sha Tsui’s Salisbury Road, taking three bridges and three tunnels through the city, including the spectacular Tsing Ma Bridge. The route takes cyclists through Mongkok, the heart of the city, to the offshore island of Tsing Yi, giving participants an exclusive opportunity to enjoy the distinctive cityscape, surreal nature and accessible infrastructure.
Hong Kong kicked off earlier this month with a strong program of popular international sporting and entertainment events. The Hong Kong Masters 2022 final broke the record for the world’s largest live snooker crowd in history and drew over 8,500 fans to watch the exciting match. Last weekend’s New World Harbor Race saw over 1,200 swimmers splash around in one of the world’s busiest harbors against the spectacular backdrop of Hong Kong. And the 2022 Hong Kong Sevens return to Hong Kong Stadium on November 4-6.
The city’s flagship sporting event sees 16 international men’s teams, including Hong Kong, take on popular national teams from Fiji, New Zealand, South Africa, Team Great Britain and Samoa in this year’s tournament at Hong Kong Stadium. More than a sporting show, the three-day tournament is a high-energy social carnival and city-wide party.
The long-awaited extravaganza will be filled with live music and entertainment, allowing fans to soak up the electric ambiance over a mug of beer and a handful of fries. Tickets for the upcoming landmark event are already on sale as Hong Kong prepares to welcome the city’s most exciting weekend of the year.
