NEW YORK, November 14, 2022 /PRNewswire/ — Horizon Media, the largest US media agency in 2022, according to AdAge Data Center, today announced the formation of the newest company in Horizon’s portfolio of marketing services – Horizon Sports & Experiences (HS&E), the latest in a series of strategic moves to continue providing marketers with innovative solutions to drive better business outcomes. HS&E is led by the team of David Levy, founder of Back Nine Ventures, LLC and past President of Turner Chris Weil, former Chairman and CEO of Momentum Worldwide, who will serve as co-CEOs and equity partners at HS&E. The new company, which includes the merger of Horizon’s Scout Sports and Entertainment division, was formed to provide a differentiated and comprehensive approach to clients engaged in sports and experiential marketing. Michael Neuman, head of Scout, will become EVP of HS&E, reporting to Levy and Weil.

With a fully integrated service model, Horizon Sports & Experiences will have a core focus on intellectual property creation and monetization, strategic advice and consultancy, media rights, sponsorship, sales, and experiential strategy and activation – making the opportunities for marketers to more seamlessly and effectively leverage their brand values, content and engagement strategies to drive growth. Additionally, given the transformative impact Web3 and the Metaverse are expected to have in both sports and experiences, Horizon Media’s recently launched Metaverse consulting firm, Chapter & Verse, will be integrated into HS&E’s expanded offering.

“While marketers look for more integration and more connections with the consumer, we’re always looking for ways to move ahead of the landscape to meet those needs, and Horizon Sports & Experiences will do just that — building on the foundation that Scout has created and will introduce a new and expanded range of services that will be key to market development,” said Bill Koenigsberg, CEO and Founder of Horizon Media. “What we have created here will bring together a unique – and complementary – combination of sports, experience and media skills and expertise under a tent that will be every marketer’s dream. I’m also excited about the groundbreaking work we’re about to do with two industry powerhouses like David Levi and Chris WeilJoining me as a partner at HS&E and entering the Horizon family with an incredible list of achievements behind them and nothing but the open opportunity to lead, create and grow beyond them.”

Levy has been recognized for his professional achievements across the industry, including being inducted into the Broadcasting & Cable Hall of Fame and being named by Sports Business Journal as one of the most influential executives of the last 20 years. Prior to founding Back Nine Ventures, LLC, a sports consulting and investment firm, Levy was President of Turner – where he provided content and advertising solutions for brands targeting sports, entertainment, news and children’s programming. He also oversaw the company’s leading national portfolio of networks and businesses – including TBS, TNT, Cartoon Network, Adult Swim, Boomerang, truTV, Turner Classic Movies, and Bleacher Report gymnast sports — and ran Turner’s two domestic revenue divisions, advertising sales and distribution. In addition, Levy provided executive oversight for increased investment in original premium content across the portfolio and contributed to 33 Emmy Award nominations for Turner in one year.

Levy took the lead gymnast sports in 2003 and has had numerous accomplishments, including deepening and expanding Turner’s media rights and defining the division through its association with premium sports content, brands and events including the NBA, Major League Baseball, PGA Tour, and orchestrating a landmark Contracted with the NCAA for the Division 1 Men’s Basketball Championship (March Madness). Levy also led a significant digital media expansion and new businesses that would expand Turner’s portfolio, including spearheading Turner’s efforts to acquire the Bleacher Report and launch Turner’s first US subscription video-on-demand services (SVOD).

“Throughout my career, I have had tremendous opportunities to build and grow some of the world’s most respected brands by creating and identifying partnerships, content and value propositions that deliver consistent value to their audiences through sports and entertainment platforms and experiences,” said Levy . “Nonetheless, I know that in today’s ever-changing media landscape, there are even more opportunities to develop powerful new IP destination events and to help existing and emerging sports leagues navigate new distribution platforms, sponsorships and sales. To that end, we “will also seek opportunities to leverage available capital for strategic acquisitions to expand those capabilities and accelerate the impact of HS&E on our clients. I am pleased that all of our clients, including those who work with me from Back Nine to HS&E – Top Rank Inc. , Learfield and others will have more services and opportunities in this merged buy-sell-brand lens, further enhanced by Horizon’s deep consumer insights and analytics offerings.”

From 2003 until his recent departure, Weil served as Chairman and CEO of Momentum Worldwide – where he oversaw the agency’s growth from two offices to 30 worldwide, delivering consistent double-digit growth year over year and ultimately taking the lead 5 billion dollars in sponsorship assets. He also ran major branding campaigns with his teams at tentpole events such as the Super Bowl, Olympics, PGA, CoachellaWimbledon and ArtBasel. Under Weil’s leadership, Momentum has received some of the industry’s top awards including Best Sports Marketing Agency, Best Experiential Agency, Best Place to Work, Agency of the Year 41 times around the globe (3x from Sports business journal) and was most recently honored with the Industry Craft Grand Prix at the Cannes Lions and named this year’s promotional week Experience agency of the year.

“With fundamental shifts in consumer attitudes and behaviors that continue to drive the evolution of brand experiences — both physical and digital — I believe Web3 will be the ‘experience web,'” Weil said. “So we are creating a company that will be at the forefront of monetizing Web3 in this mixed physical-digital world. Going forward, what the industry needs most is an agency model that can seamlessly and comprehensively support this approach and serve all of a marketer’s sports and brand experience needs in one place – media rights, sponsorship advice, sales, property and intellectual property monetization, etc. That’s exactly what we’ve been developing with Horizon Sports & Experiences, and we will aggressively identify and review acquisitions in intellectual property, experimental and other services that align with our vision.”

Weil has also received numerous professional awards throughout the industry, including two awards Sports business journals 40 Under 40 award and named one of the 100 Best People Who Make Advertising Great by the American Association of Advertising Agencies (4A’s). Additionally, as chairman of the 4A’s, Weil was instrumental in launching the High School Initiative, which he helped found new York public schools to provide professional training and opportunities for diverse talent to learn about advertising and marketing and pursue careers.

The launch of Horizon Sports & Experiences follows recent announcements by Horizon Media, including the launch of B2B consultancy Green Thread, as well as the acquisition of First Tube Media, which also specializes in hybrid cultural experiences and will work closely with HS&E.
