Local Trio Selected for NA Northeast Hall of Fame | Sports

Missy Traversi, Beverly “Kris” Helton and Lori Letendre were officially inducted into the New Agenda-Northeast Hall of Fame last Sunday.

The trio, with local ties, were chosen for their dedication to women’s sports in the New England area.

Traversi, a Bishop Feehan High School graduate and former basketball coach at Attleboro High, is currently the head coach of the Army-West Point women’s basketball program. After stints at Dover-Sherborn, Harvard University, Wheelock College and Adelphi University, she has helped coach and influence the development of hundreds of athletes. She directed the MT Elite basketball training program and during her high school coaching career, she led teams to two Division II tournaments, two NE10 division championships, and one NE10 tournament title with Adelphi. At Army, her team led the Patriot League in offensive rebounds and rebounds per game.

Traversi was a three-time sportsman with Bishop Feehan during her playing days and won three league championships and two NCAA berths as a point guard at the University of Maine.

Helton plays an important role in the New England tennis scene. With a PhD in industrial engineering and experience as a biochemist, Helton’s work as an international tennis referee is well known throughout the region. She is the official US Ambassador to the International Tennis Federation and has developed a professional development program for athletic coaches. Helton, a decorated civil servant, hails from Foxboro.

A fixture at Mansfield High Softball, Letendre is a passionate and hard-working head coach who has transformed Mansfield Softball over the past nine years as her teams have qualified for the state tournament eight times since taking office. Letendre’s Hornets reached the round of 16 last spring. In addition to her work with Mansfield, she is a dedicated servant of the Mass Drifters Club and works in coaching and leadership roles. She has held similar roles with Mansfield Youth Softball and the Mansfield Girls Softball Association.

Lentendre was a major face in Clark University Athletics during her playing days. She began as Clark’s catcher for four years while also playing goaltender for the field hockey program. Letendre has won team, varsity, league, regional and national awards over her years, and she was also a multi-sport athlete with Amherst Regional.
