Each week, The News-Press staff selects a finalist for each high school sport. Nominees are derived from scores and stats emailed by Lee County coaches to [email protected] during the week. Readers can then vote in the online poll who will be the athlete of the week.
The poll is published every Monday on news-press.com and voting closes at 10:00 on Thursday every week.
Last week, Cape Coral swimmer Melissa Blaine took first place with 64% of the vote. Cape Coral cross country runner Declan Ziomek finished second with 26%.
The winner will be announced on the @newspresssports Instagram page and @nphssports on Twitter. The winning athlete will receive a jersey from BSN Sports.
