The partners combine their strengths in the areas of packaging, assembly and GaN wafer technologies with the aim of providing high-current components for high-voltage applications such as charging and e-drives.
The expansion of the cooperation aims to meet the automotive industry’s demand for reliable and highly efficient energy solutions that save costs for electric vehicles. With the best thermal resistance, discrete GaN devices and half-bridge modules will be essential for future on-board chargers (OBC) and traction inverters to optimize weight, size, cost and range.
Based on VisICs 2nd Generation, lowest RDS (on) D3GaN (Direct Drive D-Mode) switch, the power module that will offer breakthrough power density and performance, has already been selected for the next generation of major 1st generation inverter samplesSt Animal car manufacturer.
In addition to these collaborative developments, through effective collaboration, the companies have also achieved an approach to high-voltage battery isolation based on GaN power switches in a very short period of time. With the fastest switching time, the current and thus the thermal load on the battery and vehicle electrical system can be limited. This design will be available for flagship projects this year.
