NKU opens Global Business Solutions Tech and Innovation Center on campus

Northern Kentucky University (NKU) officially opened the Global Business Solutions Tech and Innovation Center on Wednesday, November 2nd.

The Innovation Center will provide NKU students with hands-on experience, world-class information technology, cybersecurity, and sales and marketing training.

The center also acts as a training ground for NKU’s cybersecurity and IT students. Through paid internship positions, students acquire the IT-based software, hardware, and client support knowledge required for technology jobs in the Cincinnati area.

“Global Business Solutions is an outstanding community partner for NKU, providing opportunities for our students to excel both inside and outside of the classroom,” said NKU President Ashish Vaidya. “Global Business Solutions’ Technology and Innovation Center will enable our students to leverage unique opportunities and gain hands-on experience working with leading IT professionals so they are equipped to thrive in our technology-enabled world.”

Global Business Solutions Service Desk Manager Phil Toombs will act as a manager and mentor to students. Toombs said the GBS Tech and Innovation Center would help the Cincinnati metro area retain its top talent from NKU.

“Our long-standing relationships that we have here in the Tri-States, the number of Fortune 500 companies that we have, the international connections that students can make here without leaving the area is one of the biggest impacts, we want to show you.” Toombs said. “Students often think of startup or Fortune 500. There’s still everything in between. We will give them the opportunity to see all the different variables that exist in the IT world.”

Global Business Solutions Founder, Gaby Batshoun, is a Class of 1992 NKU graduate. He founded the company in 1994 to put his passion for IT and cybersecurity into practice, serving small and medium-sized businesses in Cincinnati.

“NKU has always been close to my heart and I want to give back and show the students that if you work hard and make an effort, you can achieve anything,” said Batshoun. “My vision has always been how we can invest more in our region and regional needs, to ensure that we prepare these students for real-world applications, but also to keep them in our region and invest in our region and contribute to to make it a better place to live. The Global Business Solutions Tech and Innovation Center will help us realize this vision.”
