first quarter

The Patriots won the toss and resigned to put the ball in Zach Wilson’s hands to start the afternoon. New England’s defense held strong early in the game, forcing a quick three-and-out.

After a 22-yard punt, New England started with a strong field position at the Jets’ 45-yard line. The Patriots couldn’t capitalize on that, however, and also went three-and-out after a third-down sack from Carl Lawson.

Jake Bailey’s punt pinned New York at the eight yard line to start their next drive. Faced with an early third down, Wilson extended the game with his legs before finding Tyler Conklin for a 16-yard catch-and-run. On a subsequent third-down, Wilson again extended play outside the pocket and found Garrett Wilson in downfield for a 54-yard gain. After a powerful pass break from Adrian Phillips and pressure from Matthew Judon, the Jets had to settle for a field goal. [Patriots 0 : 3 Jets]

Injury report: WR DeVante Parker (knee) return is in doubt.

New England started their second possession on the ground when Rhamondre Stevenson broke up a 14-yard run. In the next game, John Franklin-Meyers beat Isaiah Wynn for a sack, resulting in Marcus Cannon replacing Wynn. The Patriots got past being behind the sticks when Jones hit Jakobi Meyers with a crosser in third for a 16-yard conversion. Faced with another third-and-long, Jones again found Meyers for a first-down before Jones then converted another third-down with his legs. A strong run by Damien Harris put the Patriots in the deep red, but New England moved backward after a first-down sack. On the third and gate, a five-yard Stevenson run led to a 31-yard field goal from Nick Folk. [Patriots 3 : 3 Jets]

second quarter

The Jets started the second quarter with a touch pass to Garrett Wilson, who called off a 23-yard run. Wilson again found his rookie receiver for a 10-yard gain before beating Michael Carter for 17 yards from the backfield and moving into the red after an unnecessary post-game roughness penalty from Jabrill Peppers. In third place, Wilson Conklin delivered a perfect ball for an eight-yard score. [Patriots 3 : 10 Jets]

New England faced an early third down on their next drive that saw Jones find Stevenson 22 yards out of the backfield. After a Jones throw under pressure and a one-yard gain from Damien Harris, Jones was hit while throwing in third place, resulting in an interception.

After intercepting at their own 24, the New England defense took over strongly, forcing a three-and-off and a punt.

Before a long field, New England backed up to Jakobi Meyers on a screen. In third, Jones climbed and was hit hard by CJ Mosely as he went down, resulting in a 15-yard penalty. After a hold by Cole Strange set up New England with a first-and-19, Jones raised again to gain 12 yards and was slammed again on his way out of bounds. Two games later, Jones found Jonnu Smith for a first down. Shortly after, Jones found fellow tight end Hunter Henry for a 22-yard gain. Faced with a fourth and one from New York’s 22-yard line, Jones’ pass fell short to end a 13-play, 70-yard drive.

Wilson took over at halftime with just under two minutes remaining and found Conklin and Carter in back-to-back passes for 18 combined yards. In third place, New England applied pressure that forced Wilson to throw poorly. His pass was intercepted by Ja’Whaun Bentley.

At the New York 40-yard line, Jones found Stevenson out of the backfield with 42 seconds remaining for a 15-yard gain. The Patriots then almost avoided disaster when Jones’ poor pass was selected and returned for an interception. A roughing penalty, however, wiped out the game and gave New England 15 yards. After a hold by Cole Strange then assisted New England, they opted for a 42-yard field goal. [Patriots 6 : 10 Jets]

Third quarter

Injury Update: WR DeVante Parker (knee) demoted to Out.

After a terrible offensive first half, the New England offense got off to a flying start when Stevenson broke a 35-yard rush on the first play. Jones then completed back-to-back passes to Tyquan Thornton and Meyers for 13 and nine yards, respectively. Down inside the five-yard line on the fourth and one, Jones Meyers hit with a fast hitter in the flat for a touchdown. [Patriots 13 : 10 Jets]

The Jets hit two big plays in the air on their first possession in the second half as Wilson found Garrett Wilson for 18 yards and then Conklin for another 27 yards. The drive faltered when New York decided on a field goal that Greg Zuerlein missed on the left. Jack Jones seemed to have taken part of the kick.

After the miss, New England took over at their own 35-yard line. Jones beat Meyers for a six-yard gain before four direct touches from Damien Harris led to 25 yards. Down just outside the red area, Quinnen Williams beat Cole Strange for a sack in third with a 10-loss. Nick Folk then hit home a 49-yard field goal to extend New England’s lead. [Patriots 16 : 10 Jets]

New York went behind to start the next drive after a first down holding penalty. Matthew Judon then made strong back-to-back plays, recording a pass resolution and then knocking down a Jets receiver in cover, resulting in a throwaway. After a two-yard run for third place, New York trudged back to New England.

The rookie Joneses continued to excel on special teams as Marcus Jones returned the punt 32 yards to set New England up at New York’s 27-yard line. The Patriots were unable to capitalize on field possession after a quick three-and-out. Nick Folk nailed a 45-yard field goal to extend their lead. [Patriots 19 : 10 Jets]

On the Jets’ first game out of scrimmage, Matthew Judon put the pressure on Wilson out on the pocket and forced a faulty throw that Devin McCourty caught for an interception.

New England started again with a strong field position at New York’s 40 after the turnover and failed to capitalize on the second straight drive. A second-down sack and fumble – which New England recovered – set up a third-and-long that resulted in a punt. Bailey’s punt appeared to be within the five-yard line, but DaMarcus Mitchell’s momentum carried him into the end zone for a touchback.

fourth quarter

Beginning the fourth quarter with nine down points, Wilson found Garrett Wilson for an eight yard gain before Michael Carter chipped away at an 11 yard gain. Three games later, Wilson was pushed to the right and lofted a pass that was again intercepted by Devin McCourty.

It was another quick three-and-out for the New England offense after an ugly third incompletion error from Mac Jones. Nick Folk converted a 52-yard field goal, his fifth make of the day. [Patriots 22 : 10 Jets]

The Jets started their next drive with a 13-yard completion to Denzel Mims, followed by a 27-yard throw to Uzomah. The promising drive hit a wall after three unfinished points in a row. On a fourth down, Josh Uche jumped offside and set up a fourth and five. Wilson’s pass down to Conklin was incomplete.

The New England offensive remained stuck in a neutral position. Jones was fired on the second descent and a screen for Stevenson on the third descent was stopped short of the sticks. Bailey trudged back to New York with just over seven minutes to go.

A false start and then Lawerence Guy’s sack put the Jets ahead with a third-and-21 down at New York’s 10-yard line. Wilson’s check down to Conklin was then followed by a punt.

The Patriots worked with Rhamondre Stevenson to kill the clock as the back handled five direct carries for 17 yards. After a first down, New England trudged back to New York.

Down at her own 12, Wilson hit Mims for a 63-yard catch and ran to start the Jets drive. Wilson then found Jeff Smith for a 23-yard gain before being fired by Josh Uche. After the two-minute caution, Wilson hit Conklin in the end zone for a nine-yard score. [Patriots 22 : 17 Jets]
