Pegula Sports and Entertainment Selects Contractors to Build New Buffalo Bills Stadium

A joint venture between Gilbane Building Co., a Rhode Island-based construction company, New York City-based Turner Construction, and 34 Group, a Buffalo-based construction company founded by former Buffalo Bills running back Thurman Thomas and his wife, was for selected to build the team’s new $1.4 billion stadium at Orchard Park.

Pegula Sports and Entertainment has chosen the construction of the new stadium, which will be designed by architects Populous and overseen by project manager Legends Project Development.

“We continue to work with a world-class team of experts and professionals to bring our stadium to life,” said Ron Raccuia, Bills executive vice president and chief operation officer. “Gilbane-Turner has a wealth of experience in stadium construction and we look forward to the partnership.”

The tall, heavily vertical structure features a partial roof and perforated metal exterior, allowing fans approaching from the pitch to take a look inside the stadium, which is set to open in 2026.

Gilbane and Turner have worked together on 16 stadium projects, including both new and refurbished facilities. They have also been involved in other major projects, including building a new spring training facility in Florida for the Toronto Blue Jays and a $750 million public health lab project in Albany.

“This new NFL stadium will be a proud expression of the energy, passion and dedication of the Bills organization, the team, its fans and the city of Buffalo,” said LaRow. “Our joint venture team is committed to providing transportation to diverse and local businesses and working with our partners to deliver this transformational project for western New York.”

The Bills released the first two renderings of what the new stadium will look like last week. The $1.4 billion stadium, located on a lot adjacent to the current facility, is slated to open in 2026.

“The stadium will enhance the fan experience for this incredible team, and we will create opportunities and engagement for members of our community during construction,” said Carlton E. Stewart, Turner vice president and general manager.

Pro Football Hall of Fame coach Marv Levy, who guided the Buffalo Bills to four consecutive Super Bowls in the 1990s, surprised fans at the team’s home game. Levy (with help from Jim Kelly and Bruce Smith) greeted the packed stadium with his classic pre-game quote: “Where else would you be better than right here, right now?”

Turner has an office in Buffalo and has worked on many projects throughout the region, including the $270 million project to build the John R. Oishei Children’s Hospital.

The companies say they have launched a website,, with information about the project and how vendors, suppliers, commercial firms and professional services firms can find out about opportunities to work on the new stadium. The companies also said they plan to hold informational events in the coming weeks.
