Pelosi accused Trump of not being “many enough” to appear before the Jan. 6 committee

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said she doesn’t think former President Donald Trump is “many enough” to appear before the House committee investigating the Jan. 6, 2021 Capitol riots.

“I don’t think he’s man enough to show up,” Pelosi said during an appearance on MSNBC Sunday. “I don’t think his lawyers want him to show up because he has to testify under oath. But I don’t think he’ll show up. I don’t think he’s man enough. We will see.”

Pelosi’s comments come after the committee subpoenaed Trump on Friday, saying the former president must turn over all critical documents related to the unrest by Nov. 4 and appear before the committee by Nov. 14.

“As demonstrated in our hearings, we have amassed overwhelming evidence, including from dozens of your former appointees and associates, that you personally orchestrated and oversaw a multi-pronged effort to overthrow the 2020 presidential election and impede the peaceful transfer of power,” the committee said wrote to Trump.

In a 14-page letter to the selection committee Jan. 6 earlier this month, Trump declined to say whether he would comply with a possible subpoena or appear before the committee.

“Despite very poor television ratings, the Unselect Committee has continued a show trial unlike anything this country has seen before,” Trump said in the letter.

But according to a source close to Trump, “the former president loves the idea of testifying before the committee,” and told Fox News Digital last week that Trump would take the opportunity “to talk about how corrupt the election was, how corrupt the committee.” and how Nancy Pelosi failed to call in the National Guard, which Trump had urged her to do three days earlier on January 3, 2021.

Trump’s subpoena is expected to start a legal battle for the committee over whether it can compel testimony from a former president.

But Pelosi argued that the American people deserve answers and that the former president should comply.

“We’ll see if he’s man enough to show up, and the public should make a judgment,” Pelosi said. “No one is above the law. If we believe that, then you should judge how he responds to this request.”

“Whatever action the committee takes is up to them. I’ve stayed away from their decisions, but whatever they decide will also send a message of his respect,” Pelosi continued. “It does not honor the oath we take to protect and defend the United States Constitution. It is a solemn oath we all take and most of us clearly had more respect for the office he held than he did.”
