Philadelphia becomes the first city to lose two major sports championships on the same day

The sport of Philadelphia is currently in its golden era. The Eagles are the last undefeated team in the NFL, the 76ers started the new year with Eastern Conference NBA Finals aspirations, and the Phillies went from last team to making the MLB playoffs in the National League a rising postseason favorite, who went all the way way to the World Series. The Philadelphia Union also progressed through the playoffs en route to a spot in the MLS Cup after finishing the regular season with the most points in the league.

This level of success would be pretty incredible for any city, but the fact that it’s happening in Philly gives it an intensity that couldn’t be matched anywhere else. Philadelphia sports fans are the kind of people who boo Santa, throw batteries at JD Drew and get engaged after the shotgun beer at the Eagles tailgate. Michael Levin once tweeted: “Imagine enjoying a sport in Philadelphia” – Well, imagine giving that fanbase so much hope!

Unfortunately for Philly, two of the city’s best sporting success stories ended badly on Saturday. First, the Union lost the MLS Cup to LAFC in ridiculously dramatic penalties. Then the Houston Astros defeated the Phillies in Game 6 of the World Series to capture the Major League Baseball championship. This is the first time a city has lost two major professional sports championships in one day. per Elias Sport.

Want to be a pain in the ass to your friends who are Philly sports fans? Just tag her in our Instagram post or @ her on Twitter for this graphic. I’m sure they will react reasonably.

The Union’s defeat in the MLS Cup was just heartbreaking. They looked like they were on course to win the franchise’s first-ever championship until Gareth Bale scored in the dying moments of overtime.

LAFC would win on penalties. The whole thing was incredibly stressful, even if you weren’t really interested. I can’t imagine how a die-hard Union supporter feels today.

The Phillies’ Cinderella run in the MLB playoffs also ended against the widely hated Houston Astros. The Phillies led 2-1 in the series at one point but lost the final three games to lose the World Series.

At least Philly fans didn’t have to watch the Astros party in their city?

Did we mention James Harden is already injured and the Sixers have had a disappointing start to the NBA? Things are still looking good for the Eagles.

Exercise can give you so much hope and take it away in an instant. Philly fans learned this the hard way.
