Prisco’s Week 8 NFL pick: Jets upset Patriots; top giants of the Seahawks; Bengals defeat Browns at the Battle of Ohio

Going down to .500 when picking NFL games is nothing to brag about. Some will take it, but I want more – a lot more.

Last week I went straight up with my expert picks against the spread 8-6, 7-7 – hey, picking this league is tricky – and 3-3 with my best bets as part of the Pick Six Podcast.

That brings my records to 50-54-4 ATS, 57-50-1 straight up, and 20-20 with my best bets. My early successes this season have leveled off significantly.

It’s time to have a few successful weeks again. Maybe let’s look at it this way: at least they didn’t lose any records. Right? Give me something. anything?

Thursday, 8:15 p.m. ET (Amazon Prime)

Featured Game | Tampa Bay Buccaneers vs. Baltimore Ravens

The Bucs are struggling after losing back-to-back. The offense is a mess. The Ravens have improved on defense, but their passing game is struggling a bit. This is a game where Tom Brady and the Bucs get going. Look for some deep hits for big games while the Bucs get the most out of the Ravens.

Choose: Bucs 27, Ravens 19

Sunday, 9:30 a.m. ET (ESPN+)

Featured Game | Jacksonville Jaguars vs. Denver Broncos

These are two teams that need a win. The Jaguars have played better football than the Broncos so far and they’re used to playing in London. This is an advantage. This will boil down to Trevor Lawrence versus either Russell Wilson or Brett Rypien. Lawrence will make the best of it.

Choose: Jaguars 23, Broncos 17

Sunday, 1 p.m. ET (Fox, FuboTV)

Featured Game | Atlanta Falcons vs. Carolina Panthers

This is actually a big game in the NFC South as the teams in that division are so bad right now. The Falcons were dominated by the Bengals last week while the Panthers beat the Bucs. Search home for Arthur Smith to get his team back on track. The Falcons take it as they cap a bad offense by Carolina.

Choose: Falcon 23, Panther 16

Sunday, 1 p.m. ET (Fox, FuboTV)

Featured Game | Dallas Cowboys vs. Chicago Bears

The Bears impressed with the win over the Patriots, but this will be a huge step forward for their fledgling offense facing the Dallas defense. The Cowboys countered with strong running play against a Chicago defense fighting the run. With the bears in a short week and back on the road, things are about to get ugly.

Choose: Cowboys 31, bears 14

Sunday, 1 p.m. ET (CBS, Paramount+)

Featured Game | Detroit Lions vs. Miami Dolphins

The Lions broke up after a slow start, with poor defense being the main problem. Keep an eye out for the Dolphins and their track speed receivers to fly around against this defense as Tua Tagovailoa wins a shootout over the Lions. Miami rolls.

Choose: Dolphins 35, lions 26

Sunday, 1 p.m. ET (Fox, FuboTV)

Featured Game | Minnesota Vikings vs. Arizona Cardinals

The Cardinals earn a win over the Saints on Thursday while the Vikings earn a bye. Arizona’s defense was better against the Saints, but that’s a real challenge on the Vikings offense. Look for plenty of points here if the Vikings win and Kirk Cousins has a big day.

Choose: Vikings 31, Cardinals 28

Sunday, 1 p.m. ET (CBS, Paramount+)

Featured Game | New Orleans Saints vs. Las Vegas Raiders

The Raiders did some good things against the Texans last week, but facing the Saints on the road is a bigger challenge. New Orleans will have been rested after last Thursday’s loss and should have some injured players back. The Saints defense wasn’t good, but in this game they’re starting to turn things around. saints take it.

Choose: Saint 26, hunter 20

New England Patriots (-1.5) at New York Jets

Sunday, 1 p.m. ET (CBS, Paramount+)

Featured Game | New York Jets versus New England Patriots

The Patriots are playing in a short week and played terribly in Monday night’s loss to the Bears. The Jets are back at home after winning two away games. But they have sustained some serious injuries, including rookie running back Breece Hall. That will come into play later, but not here. The Jets defense will limit the Pats offense no matter who’s playing quarterback. The jets keep rolling.

Choose: Jets 24, Patriots 20

Sunday, 1 p.m. ET (CBS, Paramount+)

Featured Game | Philadelphia Eagles vs. Pittsburgh Steelers

In the Battle of Pennsylvania, a Steelers team plays a second straight game against an Eagles team who have a bye. That’s a big advantage for the Eagles. It’s difficult to prepare for the Philadelphia attack in a short week after Sunday night’s play. Give me the Eagles to win easily.

Choose: Eagles 30, Steelers 17

Sunday, 4:05 p.m. ET (CBS, Paramount+)

Featured Game | Houston Texans vs. Tennessee Titans

The Titans have taken command of the AFC South as they travel to Houston to play the Texans. Houston has improved on offense as Davis Mills plays better. The Titans pull off a big Colts win, so there might be some sort of disappointment at play. The Texans will hang around.

Choose: Titans 24, Texans 22

Sunday, 4:25 p.m. ET (Fox, FuboTV)

Featured Game | Indianapolis Colts vs. Washington Commanders

This is Taylor Heinicke versus Sam Ehlinger. Bet you can’t wait. The Colts will play Ehlinger for the remainder of the season, with Matt Ryan injured and also on the bench for the time being. Ehlinger has room to move, which will help the Colts’ poor offensive line. Commanders have won twice in a row as their defense is playing better. I think they do best here.

Choose: Commanders 23, Colts 22

Sunday, 4:25 p.m. ET (Fox, FuboTV)

Featured Game | Los Angeles Rams vs. San Francisco 49ers

This is a big game in the division, especially for the Rams, who lost to the 49ers earlier this year. The Rams are coming off a bye, so they’re rested. But the 49ers have the pass rush to disrupt the Rams’ passing game. Kyle Shanahan also had great hits against the Rams and Sean McVay. That carries over here.

Choose: 49ers 27, Rams 21

Sunday, 4:25 p.m. ET (Fox, FuboTV)

Featured Game | Seattle Seahawks vs. New York Giants

This is a long journey for a second straight road game for the Giants. They also get beaten on the offensive line. The Seahawks can lead it while the Giants can’t stop the run. Look for another big game from Kenneth Walker III if Seattle stays 5-3 atop the NFC West.

Choose: Seahawks 27, Giants 20

Sunday, 8:20 p.m. ET (NBC, FuboTV)

Featured Game | Buffalo Bills vs. Green Bay Packers

This game seemed like a celebratory matchup preseason, but the Packers are 3-4 and fighting. Coming off a bye, the Bills have looked great on offense this season. I don’t think the Packers have a chance to compete. Josh Allen brings out the best in Aaron Rodgers.

Choose: Bills 37, Packers 20

Monday, 8:15 p.m. ET (ESPN, FuboTV)

Featured Game | Cleveland Browns vs. Cincinnati Bengals

If the Browns are to have any chance of winning the division, they need to win this game. They just had so many problems on defense, which isn’t good against Joe Burrow and the Bengals’ passing game the way they throw it around. They’ll keep it going while they beat the Browns.

Choose: Bengal 33, Brown 28
