Selections, predictions, odds, props for the 2022 World Wide Technology Championship: PGA expert says Collin Morikawa

A handful of the PGA Tour’s top stars are making their way south of the border to compete at the 2022 World Wide Technology Championship in Mayakoba at El Camaleon Golf Course. The tournament begins Thursday in Playa del Carmen, Mexico, and Viktor Hovland returns as a two-time defending champion. The 11th-ranked golfer in the world picked up his second Tour win in Mayakoba in 2020, then went under 23 and won by four shots last year. World No. 2 Scottie Scheffler is the top-ranked player in the 2022 World Wide Technology Championship field, and two-time major champion Collin Morikawa will also compete. They are joined by players like Tony Finau, Billy Horschel and Seamus Power, who won the Bermuda Championship last week. Joining Hovland are six other former Mayakoba winners including Brendon Todd, Matt Kuchar and Harris English.

The latest 2022 World Wide Technology Championship odds list Scheffler as a 9-1 favorite with Hovland just behind at 10-1. Five other golfers in the 2022 World Wide Technology Championship field are 20-1 or shorter – Finau (14-1), Billy Horschel (16-1), Aaron Wise (16-1), Maverick McNealy (18-1) and Morikawa (20-1). Before you place any tips or bets for the 2022 World Wide Technology Championship, you need to check out PGA Tour predictions, best bets and sleepers from SportsLine golf insider Patrick McDonald.

After spending time at FanSided and NBC Sports EDGE, McDonald joined CBS Sports in Spring 2022 as a golf writer. McDonald now covers the sport from a broader perspective and still likes to dive into the PGA Tour betting pools on a weekly basis.

He takes a measured approach to his overall picks, finishing the 2021-22 season by 42 points in those games after meeting Cameron Smith (22-1) at the Tournament of Champions and Hudson Swafford (250-1) at The American Express. Joaquin Niemann (70-1) at the Genesis Invitational and Justin Thomas (66-1) live at the PGA Championship.

McDonald scored two of his three matchup plays at the Bermuda Championship, including winner Seamus Power +100 against pre-tournament favorite Denny McCarthy. At the Zozo Championship, McDonald secured a first-round leader by assisting Brendan Steele 80-1, and also hit two of three matchup plays by assisting winner Keegan Bradley against Corey Conners, one of the favorites. He’s up more than 15 units in matchup betting this season, and everyone who’s taken McDonald’s advice has made huge profits.

Now McDonald has studied the field of the 2022 World Wide Technology Championship and is locking in his best bets, top sleepers and favorites to avoid. You can now head over to SportsLine to see all of his PGA picks and predictions.

Top expert selection of the 2022 World Wide Technology Championship

In a big surprise from McDonald, the pundit faded McNealy and said, “His name just doesn’t belong on that part of the odds board.” The former world No. 1 amateur has yet to record a PGA Tour win, coming in at 27 last season Events placed in the top 10 four times. He has three consecutive top 20 finishes this campaign but hasn’t fared particularly badly. In his last two tournaments, he was 17 under par and shot 69 or more in five of eight rounds. McNealy can also get wild off the tee which will put him in some trouble at El Camaleon.

On the other hand, the expert likes what he sees of Morikawa and thinks this could be just the place to end his winning streak. The PGA and Open champion went almost a year without a worldwide win, but he finished in the top 10 eight times last season, including two second places. So far this fall he has failed to make the top 25 in two events, but this course can hide his problems in the short game and on the greens. Morikawa was sixth in shots won from tee to green at the CJ Cup, where he slipped to T-29 with a 72 in the final round. See who else to pick at Mayakoba here.
