Provocative comedy, hard-hitting collaboration and a refurbished venue proved a winning combination when Solvang Theaterfest and the Rotary Club of Solvang teamed up to produce a live stage show starring comedian Brian Regan at the remodeled Solvang Festival Theatre.

The Solvang Theaterfest and Rotary Club of Solvang split proceeds from the sold-out show, and Rotary used a portion of its funds to donate $5,000 to Imagine! Established the Future Capital Campaign, which funded the recently completed $5.3 million renovation project.

“Thank you to the Theaterfest staff and board of directors for giving the green light for this first-ever comedy show at the theater,” said Allan Jones, events chair for the Rotary Club of Solvang. “We had tremendous support from local business sponsors and fans from across the Central Coast, making for a truly special evening that exceeded our fundraising goals.”

In addition to donating to the theater festival, the event enabled the Rotary Club of Solvang to fund local projects such as Sunnyfields Park; international projects such as polio eradication and the provision of fresh water; and local student scholarships, senior services, and local nonprofit organizations.

The theatre’s reconstruction project, which began construction in September 2021 and was completed in July 2022, ensures structural integrity, safety and accessibility with new electrical and technical capabilities and improved lighting and sound.

Overall, the design improves audience experience and comfort with its higher wall, acoustic improvements and new seating; This makes it one of Santa Barbara County’s most attractive and modern outdoor theaters.

“It has been a pleasure to work with Theaterfest to bring such a quality performance to the Santa Ynez Valley,” said Jones. “They say laughter is the best medicine. Everyone said they felt better after the show. We hope to bring Brian Regan back for an encore next year and provide another health service to our community.”
