>> Blackhawks are ruled out by hurricanes

(Chicago, IL) — The Chicago Blackhawks failed to net the puck in a 3-0 loss to the Carolina Hurricanes at the United Center Monday night. The Blackhawks are now 6-6-and-3. They’re hosting the blues tomorrow night.

>>Fight Illini Basketball Crushes Monmouth

(Champaign, IL) – The Illinois Fighting Illini dominated Mounmouth with a 103-65 win at State Farm Center. Terrence Shannon Jr. led by 30 points and Jayden Epps by 21 points. Illinois is improving to 3 and 0 for the season, and the team moved up three spots in the top 25 and is now 20th. The Fighting Illinois take on number seven UCLA on Friday.

>>Northwestern Basketball takes on Georgetown

(Washington, DC) — The Northwestern Wildcats will be looking to remain undefeated when they take on Georgetown tonight at Capital One Arena. The Wildcats defeated Northern Illinois 63-46 on Friday and improved to 2-0. Today’s game is part of the Gavitt Tipoff Games and starts at 5:30pm.

>>Cubs Cut Heyward

(Chicago, IL) — The Chicago Cubs are officially parting ways with one of the final members of their 2016 World Series roster. The team yesterday fired outfielder Jason Heyward. The team announced in August that they would switch from Heyward in the offseason, and the outfielder did not play for the final three months of the season. The 33-year-old spent seven seasons with the Cubs and hit a .204 on a home run and ten RBI last season. Heyward entered the last year of an eight-year contract and Chicago will still owe him $22 million for 2023.

>>Bears enter week 11

(Lake Forest, IL) – The Chicago Bears are entering week 11 of the NFL season. The team is bottom in the NFC North after a 31-30 loss to the Lions on Sunday dropped them to 3 and 7. Justin Fields continues to play well weekly, but Chicago has dropped at least 31 points in each of its last three games. The Bears will look to bolster defense when they visit the Falcons this Sunday. In last night’s Monday night football game, the Washington Commanders upset the undefeated Eagles 32-21 in the Nfc East Showdown.

In local sports, the Marquette Academy 8th grade girls basketball team defeated the Wallace Warriors in the Vermilion River Conference championship game last weekend. Kelsey Cuchra led by 9 points for the Crusaders and Anna Hjerpe added 8 points. In high school girls’ basketball at the Falcon Irish Tournament, the Serena Huskers defeated the Hall Red Devils 49-37. Gwynth O’Connell led with 23 points and 5 rebounds for the Huskers. Paisley Twait added 7 points and 10 rebounds and Jenna Setchell notched 11 points and grabbed 6 rebounds to win. La Salle-Peru 69, Somonauk 24. The Seneca Fighting Irish defeated Herscher 37-26 in the first round of the Falcon Irish tournament. Earlville lost 43-27 to West Chicago in the IMSA tournament. The Marquette Lady Cru defeated Flanagan Cornell 60-44 in last night’s Falcon-Irish Tournament. Lily Craig scored 27 points and 9 rebounds for Marquette. Eva McCallum 13 points 9 vines and Avery Durdan 8 points 5 vines also for the Cru. The Ottawa Lady Pirates defeated Pontiac 58-33 in the first game of the Prairie Central tournament last night. The pirates were led by Grace Carroll with 13 points. Hailey Larsen added 11 points, Kendall Lowery 10 and Morgan Stone eight points
