Easton Bogard’s goal in the first overtime proved a match winner as the Oak Park and River Forest High School boys’ football team defeated Maine South 2–1 on October 21 to win the IHSA Class 3A Leyden Township regional title. The win extended the Huskies’ winning streak to 10 games.
Colin Hayes also scored for OPRF, the No. 3 at the Glenbrook South Sectional. The Huskies (16-3) faced No. 8 Lane Tech in a semifinal on Oct. 25, a win would send OPRF to a title fight on Oct. 28 against either No. 1 New Trier or No. 4 Niles North.
In Class 2A, No. 3 Niles Notre Dame Sectional Fenwick High School was upset by No. 6 Senn 2-1 in the Oct. 21 Schurz Region Finals.
Ian Martinello’s goal gave the Friars (7-10-2) a 1-0 lead after 24 minutes of play, but the Bulldogs rallied for two second-half goals to advance to the semifinals.
OPRF girls swimming
The OPRF girls’ swim and dive team placed fourth in the October 22 West Suburban Conference Silver Division meeting at Lyons Township High School with 182 points.
Sophomore Sadie Murphy won the 500-yard freestyle for the Huskies in 5 minutes, 5.15 seconds. She also placed second in the 200 freestyle in 1:53.53.
Other top OPRF swimmers included senior Rebecca Dee, who finished fourth in the 100 backstroke (1:01.72); senior Victoria Evans, who placed sixth in the 100m breaststroke (1:13.06); and senior Amanda Lane, who finished fifth in both the 50 freestyle (25.34) and 100 freestyle (55.55).
The Huskies 400 Freestyle Relay featuring Murphy, Jessica Li, Lane and Dee finished third in 3:40.19.
OPRF now turns its attention to the IHSA Leyden Township Sectional on November 5th.
Fenwick, Trinity Swimming
The Fenwick girls swim and dive team placed second at the Catholic Sports Conference for Girls October 22-23 at Loyola Academy.
Sophomore Anna Doherty won the 200 medley (personal best 2:08.92) and the 500 freestyle (5:09.04). Fenwick’s 200 medley relay won in a time of 1:48.27.
Other swimming highlights for the Friars included senior Annie McCarthy, fourth in 50 freestyle (personal best 24.93) and sixth in 100 breaststroke (1:10.53), student Evelyn Mulvihill (fourth in 100 backstroke, 59.61). and 6th in 50m freestyle, 25.39), Senior Baileigh Racky (4th in 100 Butterfly, 59.35), Senior Kailyn McHugh (5th in 200 Freestyle, 1:57.71), Junior Cailey Peele (5th .in the 200 IM, 2:14.31) and the 400 freestyle relay, which placed second in 3:37.26.
In diving, senior Anastasia Lerma was third with 347.30 points, followed by junior Anna Connelly in fourth with 301.80.
Fenwick’s next meeting will be the IHSA section in Leyden Township on November 5th.
Trinity High School will also be in the Leyden section. The Blazers finished 10th at the GCAC meeting with 55 points.
Senior Maddy Halloran had Trinity’s best individual performance with a 16th place finish in the 100 breaststroke (1:21.69).
