Sports Summary: Fall sports conclude regular season competition, girls soccer enters the postseason

Blaine Fall Sports will wrap up their regular season action this week as some teams begin postseason games.

Soccer

The Borderites lost 13-61 at home to an undefeated team of Lynden Christian on October 21, after earning their first win of the season on the road the week before.

The Lyncs came out flying and were no match for the Blaine defense and went into halftime with a 48-0 lead. Blaine scored twice in the second half after sophomore Colin Davis found junior Riley Ihde for a 55-yard pass and junior Conner Dalry for a 25-yarder. Blaine picked up his first win of the season on October 14 away against Bellingham High School. The Borderites beat the Bayhawks 44-18 in Bellingham’s home game at Civic Field.

Blaine has two more games this season. The team travels to Nooksack Valley on Friday October 28th and hosts Cedar Park Christian on Friday November 4th. Both games will take place at 7 p.m. The Borderites have an overall record of 1-7 this season. They are 0-3 in the conference.

girls soccer

Blaine Girls Soccer picked up two wins after a 9-1 loss to Lynden Christian on October 17. The Lady Borderites defeated Nooksack Valley in a comfortable 5-0 home win and then traveled to Mount Baker for a 1-0 win The post-game postseason was cut short by lightning.

They finished the regular season with a 6-6-1 record. They were 5-2-1 in the conference.

volleyball

The Lady Borderites lost 3-1 at home to Burlington-Edison on October 26 after earning their second win of the season at Mount Baker the week before. Blaine beat the Mountaineers 3-2 on October 25.

The girls got off to a slow start to senior night, losing the first set to the Tigers 25-17. They rallied to win the second set 25-20 but lost momentum in the third and couldn’t come back. Seniors Anika Hagen, Gillian Rea and Hope Weeda all contributed big points, as did juniors Teyana Zaddack and Deja Dube and student Kaitlyn Harrington. Seniors on the team include Rea, Weeda, Alyssa Bacon and Hagen.

The girls will finish their regular season at Mount Vernon High School on Thursday, October 27 at 7 p.m. They are 2-12 years old this season.

cross country

Blaine will attend the 1A District Meeting which will be held at the Deming Log Show Grounds on Saturday, October 29th starting at 10:00 am

To swim

Blaine’s co-op team with Ferndale will next compete in the Northwest Conference B Championships on Friday, October 28 at the Arne Hanna Aquatic Center in Bellingham. The meeting starts at 3:30 p.m. For the team’s schedule, see bit.ly/3U5exL8.
