Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, October 27, 2022 /PRNewswire/ — The global non-profit foundation, the Future Investment Initiative (FII) Institute, today announced the launch of the “Algoritmi Prize” with the support of global research publisher Springer Nature. The annual science and technology awards were created to recognize research in artificial intelligence (AI) and robotics that has the potential to develop real-world solutions to global challenges.
Each year, the Algoritmi Prize focuses on a different global challenge facing the world community, on issues such as food and water security, healthcare, energy and climate change. All eligible applicants will be invited to an open competition, which will be judged by an independent panel of global experts.
Successful applicants will then receive funding to develop and scale up their technology while gaining access to the FII Institute’s platforms to share their research with investors, academics and decision makers. Applications are open in January 2023and the first prize winners will be announced October 2023 at FII 7th edition.
In addition, the award will be accompanied by an annual symposium at the FII meetings, where a high-profile speaker in the field of robotics will present a presentation. The symposium brings together delegates from academia, government and industry with common interests to create a path for discussions in robotics and to drive innovation.
Richard AttiasCEO of FII Institute, commented: “Our mission at FII Institute is to make an impact on humanity, with a focus on four main areas including artificial intelligence and robotics. By launching the Algoritmi Prize, we hope to encourage the brightest minds from around the world to share their creative ideas with investors and decision makers and translate them into real-world solutions to solve some of the problems facing people around the world world face.”
Global recognition of the importance of AI and robotics in solving current global problems is growing, and the number of articles published in scientific journals has grown exponentially every year. With the advent of new technologies, it is clear that robotics research urgently needs to focus on real-world solutions to address the social, economic, and environmental challenges we face today.
The development of the award program was carried out in collaboration with the global research publisher Springer Nature, who, with its expertise in science and research communication, will be involved in the judging and evaluation of the entries for the first prize.
Steven Inchcoombe, Chief Publishing Officer, said: “Awards programs provide important platforms to recognize those researchers who are expanding evidence-based approaches to addressing global challenges. We are excited to support this new award, through which the FII will shine a light on the influential research emerging in AI and robotics.”
