Transit Wireless Receives Information Services Franchise From New York City Office of Technology and Innovation (OTI)

Transit Wireless will use existing Dark Fiber paths to enable connectivity Manhattan out long Island with over 10 unique river crossings

NEW YORK, October 24, 2022 /PRNewswire/ — TransitWirelessa BAI communication and leading provider of 5G wireless infrastructure, announced it has received an Information Services Franchise (ISF) license from the New York City Office of Technology and Innovation (OTI/DoITT).

This license allows Transit Wireless to build broadband infrastructure in NYC’s public driveway, extending fiber optic communications capabilities to fiber optic carriers, local businesses, universities, hospitals, multi-unit housing developments and other businesses or areas requiring connectivity.

The existing 160 miles of fiber installed in the MTAs NYC The subway system uses a carrier-grade, 864-wire fiber optic network that connects to five strategically located Base Station Hotels (BSH) throughout NYC. As part of the recently announced plan to expand Wi-Fi and cellular connectivity across the MTA subway network, Transit Wireless will add an additional 418 miles of 1728 fiber strands.
