WiSA Technologies announces licensing program for its multi-channel wireless audio technology

BEAVERTON, Ore.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–WiSA Technologies, Inc. (NASDAQ: WISA), a leading provider of immersive wireless sound technology for next-generation smart devices and home entertainment systems, today announced a licensing program for its premium multi-channel wireless software, WiSA E . The program is aimed at HDTV platforms and loudspeaker manufacturers. As consumer demand for an enhanced audio experience grows, WiSA Technologies predicts that a low-cost licensing program that makes WiSA’s audio technology readily available for industrial platforms will enable an ecosystem of affordable and interoperable immersive audio products.

WiSA E is currently being ported to Amlogic’s low-cost HDTV platform. WiSA Technologies is also working with several leading IoT chip manufacturers, including Realtek and Espressif, to run WiSA’s audio software on low-cost Wi-Fi chips.

“Today’s multi-channel audio components are expensive ASICs that are being relegated to the high end of the market,” said Eric Almgren, WiSA’s chief strategy officer. “WiSA has taken its multi-channel audio technology, currently used by many of the world’s leading audio brands, and developed an embeddable software product running on HDTV SoC platforms and low-cost IoT/Wi-Fi chips. Our new licensing program enables any smart TV or speaker to offer high quality wireless multi-channel audio at a much lower price than what is currently available on the market.”

WiSA E is an interoperable audio software/IP designed to be ported to TV SoC platforms, enabling integrated transmission capabilities for high-quality multi-channel audio streams. To enable an ecosystem of interoperable loudspeakers, WiSA E is also designed to operate on inexpensive 3approx-Party 5GHz IoT chips/modules. The WiSA Association, an organization with over 70 industry members, is developing an interoperability testing specification to ensure that products using WiSA E technology work seamlessly with one another.

“For the majority of consumers, high-quality immersive audio systems are too expensive and too complex to set up,” said Brett Moyer, CEO of WiSA. “By licensing WiSA’s industry-proven multi-channel wireless audio technology to HDTV platform providers, consumers can easily and affordably add wireless speakers to create a full Atmos-enabled immersive sound system without the need for additional cables or wires.”

WiSA E is testing this quarter (Q4 2022) with selected beta customers. Discussions on business licensing of WiSA E-Software products have begun; Porting of WiSA E software to platforms is supported in USA, Asia and India. WiSA Technologies anticipates that the WiSA E-Software will be in production during 2023.
